What is Chicago Gifted Program ? Chicago Gifted Program (CGP) offers a multitude of options for educational needs of children who are gifted. Chicago Public School (CPS) system hosts almost 500 schools with five specialty schools which are gifted, classical, magnet cluster, magnet and charter. Of these the last three consider admissions through computerized lottery system. To get into classical schools and regional gifted centers (RGC) though, there are admission tests and are grouped under ‘Selective Enrollment Elementary School’ (SEES) category. SEES are offered through CPS’s Options for Knowledge program and managed by OAE (Office of Access and Enrollment).

Preparation for Chicago Gifted Program.

The questionnaire of the tests are designed on the easier concepts covered in lower grade questions. Therefore, whichever grade your child is in start the practice from lower grades, slowly working towards higher levels and eventually beyond your child’s grade level. This of course needs to be handled with patience because you don’t want your child to get frustrated. Exposure to the test content and format is vital while getting your child ready for admissions tests. Treat the test prep as fun and enjoyable rather than a stressful activity so your child is focused without being anxious.
